The Pre-Screens helps us understand your experiences and whether an assessment is likely to be appropriate. It also allows our clinicians to prepare for your consultation.

Before your consultation, we review your responses and prepare a one-page clinical summary of your Pre-Screen. This summary helps guide the discussion during your consultation and ensures we have a clear understanding of your concerns from the outset.

The £100 Pre-Screen fee includes your consultation and is fully redeemable against the cost of your assessment if you choose to proceed.

Why do I need to complete a Pre-Screens?

During your consultation, lasting up to 45 minutes, one of our clinicians will:

  • Discuss your current concerns and experiences.
  • Review your one-page Pre-Screen summary with you.
  • Consider any potential risks.
  • Triage your case to ensure you are on the most appropriate assessment pathway.

At the end of the consultation, one of two things will happen:

  • If an assessment is appropriate, we'll explain the next steps, discuss payment options, and arrange your assessment appointments.
  • If we do not recommend an assessment, we'll explain the clinical reasons for this decision, discuss the next steps, and recommend any appropriate support or interventions before an assessment is considered.

Our priority is to ensure that every assessment takes place at the right time and provides the best possible outcome for you.

What happens during the consultation?

Following your consultation, we may advise that now is not the right time to proceed with an assessment.

If this happens, we'll explain our reasoning clearly and discuss any recommendations or support that may be helpful before moving forward.

Our aim is always to ensure assessments are carried out when they are clinically appropriate.

What if I'm not ready for an assessment?

When do I pay for my assessment?

Yes.

Autism Assessment

The observation part of your assessment must take place in person.

Your informant interview can be completed either:

  • Online, or
  • Face-to-face.

ADHD Assessment

All ADHD assessment appointments are completed in person.

Dual Autism & ADHD Assessment

If you're having a dual Autism and ADHD assessment, we recommend completing your Autism observation and ADHD assessment on the same day, in person, where possible. This helps make the assessment process more efficient and reduces the number of visits required.

Your informant interview for the Autism assessment can still be completed online or face-to-face, depending on what works best for you and your informant.

Are Autism and ADHD assessments completed differently?

Where possible, we aim to provide your assessment outcome within 24 hours of your final assessment appointment.

This is subject to:

  • Receiving sufficient clinical information.
  • Clinician availability.

You will also receive a confirmation email so your outcome is provided to you in writing.

How long will it take to receive my outcome?

If assessment is recommended following your consultation, we'll invite you to choose one of our payment options:

  • Pay in full, or
  • Begin one of our three-month payment plans.

Once payment arrangements have been made, your assessment appointments will be booked.

Occasionally, our clinicians may feel that there isn't enough information available to reach a safe and accurate clinical outcome.

If this happens, we'll discuss this with you as soon as possible, explain why additional information is needed, and talk you through the next steps. This may include gathering further information, arranging an additional appointment, or requesting further evidence where appropriate.

Our priority is to ensure that any outcome is based on a thorough and accurate assessment, giving you confidence in the clinical decision and any recommendations that follow.

What happens if there isn't enough information to reach an outcome?

Your comprehensive assessment report is usually completed within 6–8 weeks of your assessment being finished.

The report includes detailed findings, the outcome of your assessment, and personalised recommendations where appropriate.

Once your assessment is complete, you will receive your final diagnostic report electronically via our secure system. Please note that we do not routinely provide printed (hard) copies of reports.

When will I receive my report?

We believe support shouldn't stop once your assessment is complete.

Depending on your outcome, you may be offered access to our post-diagnostic support, which may include:

  • A feedback appointment.
  • Workshops.
  • Signposting to additional services and resources.
  • Ongoing recommendations tailored to your needs.

Please visit our Post-Diagnostic Support page for full details.

How soon can I attend a workshop?

What support is available after my assessment?

Our workshops run throughout the year for different age groups. As a result, there may be a wait before the next appropriate workshop becomes available.

For clients who have completed an assessment with NeuroPerspectives, attendance at one post-diagnostic workshop is included within the assessment fee.

If you have not had an assessment through NeuroPerspectives but would like to attend one of our workshops, you are very welcome to do so. The cost to attend a 2-hour workshop is £35 per person.

We'll always let you know the next available dates and keep you updated.

Is the £100 Pre-Screen refundable?

The £100 Pre-Screen fee covers your Pre-Screen and includes up to a 45-minute consultation with one of our clinicians.

If you choose to proceed with an assessment through NeuroPerspectives, the £100 will be deducted from the total cost of your assessment.

Once the Pre-Screen and consultation have been completed, the £100 fee is non-refundable, as the clinical review and consultation have already been provided.

Can I book an assessment without completing the Pre-Screen?

No.

Every assessment begins with our Pre-Screen and consultation process.

This allows us to ensure you're referred onto the most appropriate pathway and that an assessment is clinically suitable before any further appointments are arranged.

We offer comprehensive assessments for:

  • Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
  • ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
  • Speech and Language Assessments

Assessments are available for children (from 7 years of age), adolescents and adults.

What assessments do you offer?

Our assessments are completed by experienced clinicians, including Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other qualified professionals with expertise in neurodevelopmental assessments.

We use a multidisciplinary approach to ensure that assessments are considered from different professional perspectives. At least two different clinical disciplines will be involved in every assessment, either through direct involvement during the assessment process or through a multidisciplinary discussion and meeting between clinicians. This helps ensure that the information gathered is carefully considered from a range of professional perspectives before an outcome is reached.

Who carries out the assessment?

This varies depending on the type of assessment. Most assessments involve:

  • Completing questionnaires before your appointment.
  • A clinical interview.
  • Standardised assessment tools.
  • Gathering information from relevant people where appropriate.
  • A feedback appointment.
  • A comprehensive written report.

We will explain the process fully when your assessment is booked.

How long does the assessment process take?

Yes.

Many people experience traits of both Autism and ADHD. We offer a combined assessment where both conditions can be explored during the same assessment process.

Can I have an Autism and ADHD assessment at the same time?

No.

You do not need a referral from your GP to book an assessment with NeuroPerspectives. You are welcome to self-refer directly to our service.

However, before your assessment can take place, we will ask you to provide a copy of your GP Summary Care Record (or a GP summary of your medical history). This information helps our clinicians gain a better understanding of your medical history, current health, medications and any relevant diagnoses. It also ensures that we are able to provide a safe, thorough and informed assessment.

Obtaining this information is the responsibility of the client (or parent/carer for children), and it is usually available free of charge from your GP practice.

Please note that we are unable to proceed with your assessment until we have received your GP summary. This is an essential part of our assessment process and helps us ensure that our assessments meet clinical best practice.

If you have any difficulty obtaining your GP summary, please contact us and we will be happy to advise you.

Do I need a GP referral?

Yes.

At NeuroPerspectives, our assessments are completed in line with current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and are informed by internationally recognised diagnostic criteria, including the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and the International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision (ICD-11).

Our clinicians use evidence-based assessment tools, clinical interviews and information gathered from a range of sources to ensure that every assessment is thorough, person-centred and clinically robust.

Where a diagnosis is made, it is based on a comprehensive evaluation of all the available information and the relevant diagnostic criteria.

Are your assessments recognised?

Your clinician will spend time getting to know you and understanding your developmental history, communication style, relationships, sensory experiences and everyday functioning.

For children, parents or carers will also be involved in providing developmental information.

The assessment may include recognised assessment tools alongside a detailed clinical interview.

What happens during an Autism assessment?

Yes.

Following your assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report that includes:

  • The assessment process.
  • Information gathered during the assessment.
  • Clinical findings.
  • Your diagnostic outcome (where appropriate).
  • Personalised recommendations for home, education, work, or daily life.

If a diagnosis is made, your final report will usually be completed and sent to you within 6–8 weeks of your assessment. This allows our clinicians sufficient time to complete a thorough review and prepare a high-quality, detailed report.

Once your assessment is complete, you will receive your final diagnostic report electronically via our secure system. Please note that we do not routinely provide printed (hard) copies of reports.

Will I receive a report?

Not everyone who attends an assessment receives a diagnosis.

Your report will clearly explain the reasons for the outcome and may include recommendations, alternative explanations, and suggestions for further support where appropriate.

Once you have received your report, we also offer an online feedback session to talk through the findings, answer any questions you may have, and discuss the most appropriate next steps and available support.

What if I am not diagnosed?

Who should I choose
as my informant?

For both Autism and ADHD assessments, it is highly preferable for your informant to be someone who has known you since early childhood, ideally from birth. This is because part of the assessment involves exploring your early development and understanding how your experiences may have presented throughout your life.

We understand that this isn't always possible. During your consultation, we'll discuss who may be the most appropriate informant for you and explore the options available.

If you don't have someone who has known you since birth, it is still possible to have an assessment. Your clinician will talk this through with you, consider the information that is available, and advise on the best approach for your individual circumstances.

Your clinician will explore:

  • Attention and concentration.
  • Hyperactivity and impulsivity.
  • Childhood history.
  • Education and employment experiences.
  • Daily functioning.
  • Emotional wellbeing.

We also use recognised assessment questionnaires and clinical interviews.

What happens during an ADHD assessment?

Yes.

We assess all presentations of ADHD, including:

  • Predominantly Inattentive
  • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
  • Combined Presentation

Do you assess both inattentive and hyperactive presentations?

No.

NeuroPerspectives provides assessment and diagnostic services.

If medication is appropriate, we can discuss your options and advise you on the next steps, which may include referral to an appropriate medical professional.

This includes ADHD medicaion.

We work with two private psychiatrists who can provide referrals for private medication management, where clinically appropriate.

Please note that NeuroPerspectives is a private service and is not part of the NHS. Any referral to a private psychiatrist and ongoing medication management will therefore be a separate paid service, with fees payable directly to the private psychiatrist.

If medication is prescribed privately, you may wish to speak with your GP regarding shared care. However, please be aware that GPs are not currently accepting new shared-care arrangements in all circumstances, and your GP is not obliged to enter into a shared-care agreement. This means that you may need to continue paying for private prescriptions and psychiatric medication management.

Will I receive ADHD
medication from NeuroPersepctives?

We offer a range of optional post-assessment support, including:

  • One-to-one sessions with a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Further consultation appointments.
  • Facilitated autistic women's support groups.
  • Workshops.
  • Signposting to trusted external organisations and resources.
