"Gold standard” assessments are the most trusted and evidence-based ways of understanding a person’s needs. They are widely used by trained professionals because they are reliable, well-researched, and recognised as best practice.
Rather than relying on a single test, gold standard assessments take a holistic approach, which may include:
- Talking with the individual and/or family
- Exploring developmental history
- Structured observations
- Standardised questionnaires or tools
This approach helps build a fuller, more accurate picture of the person.
Important to know:
Gold standard does not mean perfect. Every individual is unique, and good assessments always consider personal experiences, context, and the time needed for someone to feel comfortable and understood.
For autism and ADHD assessments, services should follow guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
These guidelines are based on the best available evidence and help ensure assessments are safe, consistent, and person-centred.
What does this mean in practice?
Assessments that follow NICE guidelines will:
- Be carried out by appropriately trained professionals.
- Use a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach where needed.
- Include a detailed developmental history.
- Consider information from different settings (e.g. home, school, work).
- Use recognised assessment tools and clinical judgement.
- Allow enough time to understand the individual fully.
Person-Centred and Respectful
NICE guidance emphasises that assessments should:
- Respect individual differences and neurodiversity.
- Be clear, transparent, and explained throughout.
- Involve the individual (and family where appropriate)
- Be adapted to meet communication and sensory needs.
Why is this important?
Following NICE guidelines helps to ensure that:
- Assessments are fair and evidence-based.
- Individuals are properly understood, not rushed.
- Outcomes are accurate and meaningful.
If you're looking for the quickest assessment possible, we may not be the right service for you. We believe that providing a high-quality assessment takes time. Our priority is to ensure we fully understand your experiences, complete a thorough evaluation, and reach the most accurate clinical diagnosis possible, regardless of the outcome. We never rush the process - because getting it right matters.
Transparent Pricing
We believe in being completely transparent about our fees. When researching autism and ADHD assessment, you may notice that our fees are lower than some providers. This is because we are passionate about making high-quality assessments as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.
Initial Pre-Screening – £100
Before booking a full assessment, we carry out a comprehensive pre-screening for £100. This includes the completion of our pre-screening questionnaires, a one page summary, and an up to 45-minute consultation with one of our clinicians. The consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns, explore whether a full assessment is appropriate, and ask any questions you may have.
Following the pre-screening, you will receive a one page summary outlining our findings and recommendations.
If you decide to go ahead and book a full assessment with NeuroPerspectives, the £100 pre-screening fee will be deducted from the total cost of your assessment.
Payment Options
Once your £100 initial pre-screening fee has been paid and you decide to proceed with a full assessment, you can choose to either:
- Pay the remaining assessment fee in full, or
- Spread the remaining balance over three monthly instalments.*
Once payment has been received, we will arrange your assessment dates.
*Payment plans are offered at the clinicians' discretion.

At NeuroPerspectives, we believe every child deserves the time to settle into school before beginning the assessment process. For this reason, we offer autism assessments for children aged 7 years and above, allowing us to gain a clearer understanding of their strengths, differences, and needs within the school environment as well as at home.

At NeuroPerspectives, we offer ADHD assessments for children aged 7 years and above. This allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of how a child's strengths and differences present across different environments, enabling us to make the most accurate and informed clinical diagnosis, regardless of the outcome.
The difference in price between our child and adult ADHD assessments reflects the additional information required as part of a comprehensive child assessment. This includes gathering evidence from parents or carers, schools, and other professionals where appropriate, ensuring we build a complete picture of your child's presentation across different settings in line with current clinical guidelines.

If you are seeking both an autism and ADHD assessment, we offer a dual assessment option for both children and adults. This provides a comprehensive evaluation of both neurodevelopmental profiles within a single assessment pathway. This ensures a thorough and holistic understanding of an individual's strengths, differences/needs, and areas where they may benefit from support.
